HOW TO STORE & DISPLAY YOUR SNEAKERS

Are you sick of seeing all of your sneakers on the floor?

Do you have too many kicks to count?

Do you struggle to find that perfect pair because your kicks are hidden in their boxes?

If you answered yes to any of those questions then this guide is for you!

Whether you have five pairs of sneakers in your collection or 5,000, storing your sneakers is one of the biggest challenges for any serious sneaker collector.

You can only wear one pair at a time, which means that more of your sneakers will be sitting in a box, on a shelf, or in a pile at the bottom of your closet, than you'll ever be wearing at once.

We will outline the best ways to organise, display and protect your sneaker collection and discuss the advantages and disadvantages of each solution.

1. IN THE ORIGINAL BOXES

The OG sneaker storage solution, stacks and stacks of boxes containing your most prized possessions. Whilst this is a rite of passage for any sneaker collector it does have many disadvantages:

  • Putting undue pressure and strain on the boxes when stacked too high
  • Having to re-arrange your whole stack when you need that perfect pair from the bottom
  • Not having a clue what is in each box leading to a lot of frustration as you hunt for your desired pair
  • Not showing off your collection

A lot of people who move away from this solution ask one important question, "what the hell do I do with all of these empty boxes now". We have seen many answers over the years, from storing them away safely, cutting the edges to flat-pack them or even getting creative and making some wall art with them!

2. ON SHELVING UNITS

Now we are getting somewhere! Your kicks are out of their boxes and on show for the world (or your Instagram followers) to see. You can organise them by style, colour, brand or mix and match to your heart's content.

Whilst this can be an affordable and effective way to organise and display your collection it does have a few disadvantages:

  • It offers no protection to the sneakers, leaving them open to dust and grubby fingers when you have visitors over
  • Depending on the shelving design it may not make the most of the space
  • Larger storage/shelving units means it is harder to grow with your collection and adding extra storage may mean having to add an entire extra shelving unit.
  • Some narrow/short shelves may not fit particular types of sneakers like high top Jordans or wider sneakers like Yeezy 350's

If you do go for this option we recommend regularly dusting your sneakers and restricting access to only your most trusted friends and family!

3. PLASTIC TUBS

Generic plastic tubs are a good way to address the protection of your sneakers, however, they have many disadvantages especially when looking at long-life storage:

  • Depending on the tub sizing it may not make the most of the space.
  • Tubs with a lid on top mean you will need to unstack an entire column just to reach the bottom pair.
  • Tubs are air-tight which is not good for long term sneaker storage (sneakers need some ventilation).

If you do go for this option we recommend regularly opening the tubs up to give your sneakers a chance to breathe.
